A nurse in a drug and alcohol detoxification center is planning care for a client

We can help.

For more than 40 years, Tellurian has offered a full continuum of care for those that are struggling with mental health and/or substance use disorders. When you call Tellurian, our compassionate staff will work diligently to help you find the level of care that best fits your unique, individual situation. Tellurian prioritizes pregnant women and/or patients using drugs intravenously.

THE PROCESS

The process of getting into treatment begins with a phone call by you, an affected family member, or loved one, requesting an assessment. Tellurian does not automatically assume a diagnosis of alcoholism, addiction or mental health concerns, without first conducting an assessment and evaluation by one of the center’s highly trained and certified staff.

When you call Tellurian, you will speak with an experienced and compassionate member of our staff who will guide you through a brief, confidential telephone screening. Once the screening is completed, and if treatment is recommended, an assessment will be conducted, and the counselor will determine the most appropriate level of care based on the individual needs of each patient.

Tellurian offers a full continuum of care, meaning there are many levels of treatment available, in order to best serve our patients. Our treatment team will treat the whole person, recognizing that substance use and mental health often co-occur and the treatment of both is imperative for effective treatment. Tellurian patients may experience all or some of the treatment programs listed below.

DETOXIFICATION CENTER

Prolonged and extensive use of alcohol and/or drugs can lead to physical dependency and life-threatening health problems. Tellurian’s Detoxification Center is the first step on the road to recovery from substance abuse and alcohol dependency. It provides a safe and secure environment where patients are medically monitored and treated while detoxifying from alcohol and substance use.

Tellurian’s Detoxification Center is a 29-bed facility staffed by highly trained, credentialed professionals. Patients at the Detoxification Center are medically monitored by a Registered Nurse (RN) and supervised by a Board-Certified Physician (MD) specializing in addictionology.

As part of the detoxification process and treatment protocol, Wisconsin State Certified Counselors meet individually with each patient to help determine the optimal treatment level and expedite entry into community treatment programs. The average length of stay for most patients at the Tellurian Detoxification Center is 72 hours or less. Opiate withdrawal can and does often take longer to fully cleanse the body of opiates. Some patients experiencing opiate withdrawals may choose a longer length of stay.

  • Tellurian provides a safe withdrawal from alcohol and drugs.
  • We provide detoxification that is both humane and protects the patient’s dignity.
  • We prepare the patient for ongoing treatment for their substance use.

RESIDENTIAL TREATMENT

Tellurian’s Residential Treatment is the most intensive form of care, and provides a safe, secure, and structured living environment on our main campus for up to 90 days. Treatment includes individual and group therapy, spiritual care groups, holistic healing and specialized counseling for problems such as anger management, domestic violence, and mental health issues.

Tellurian specializes in substance use disorders with an emphasis on co-occurring mental health disorders. Many patients struggling with substance use disorders have accompanying mental health or behavioral health issues, such as depression, anxiety disorders, or post-traumatic stress disorders. To support these patients and most effectively address their disease, mental health counseling is integrated into the treatment regimen. The Tellurian Medical Director, a specialist in addiction medicine and member of the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM), provides medical oversight, including health screens and diagnosis of underlying health issues. Psychiatric care is provided as appropriate or recommended, assuring that any co-occurring mental health issues are identified and treated along with the addiction. Men and women are housed in separate living areas, have separate common areas, and participate in separate, but similar, treatment regimens. The living environment is safe, comfortable and is surrounded by 110 acres of conservancy land. Patients will have the opportunity to enjoy wildlife, walking trails, and the peaceful serenity of a nature center, while receiving care designed specifically for their unique diagnosis.

We understand that each path to recovery is unique. Our adult residential treatment program, led by a physician board-certified in addiction medicine, is modeled on an average 30-day length of stay. Tellurian counselors develop treatment plans for the best possible outcomes. Each Tellurian clinical team member is state certified and licensed, and all counselors have masters level training or higher. Our clinicians specialize in co-occurring addiction and mental health treatment and are experienced in many treatment disciplines. Current treatment philosophies and programs include: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Stages of Change, Behavioral Modification, Relapse Prevention, Spirituality and Forgiveness, Addiction and Cravings group and Lifestyle Balance. We offer optional holistic approaches as well including Yoga, exercise, and Expressive Art. Alcoholics Anonymous (A.A.), Narcotics Anonymous (N.A.), and Smart Recovery are optional and available for all patients.

The Tellurian Day Treatment Program is for patients that have a supportive living environment but require more intensive treatment than what traditional outpatient treatment programs offer. Our program includes, but is not limited to individual and group therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, stages of change, person-centered and strength-based therapies, mindfulness, and motivational interviewing.

Tellurian’s Day Treatment Program provides patients with an opportunity to practice recovery skills within the community, utilizing peer and staff support to maintain sobriety. Morning, afternoon and evening group sessions are available to accommodate our patients’ work or home schedules, and group size is limited to 8 participants in each session In addition to the daily group sessions, patients of Tellurian’s Day Treatment Program also receive weekly one-on-one individual therapy. Individual counseling sessions are facilitated by State Certified, dually licensed, masters degreed therapists specializing in substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders. Family counseling is available, and recommended, to help loved ones understand the nature of addiction and mental illness. Participants learn essential recovery tools that can enhance family functioning while supporting the patient’s continued sobriety and recovery.

The Day Treatment Program is licensed under DHS 75.12 as a CSAS Day Treatment Service. It is an approved provider for the Dane County intoxicated driver program and assists participants in the successful completion of recommended or court-ordered driver safety plans.

OUTPATIENT TREATMENT PROGRAM

The Tellurian Outpatient Treatment Program is the least restrictive level of care Tellurian offers to its patients. Tellurian’s treatment is highly individualized and based on specific patient needs as assessed by their counselor. Treatment length and schedules are determined by each patient’s individual progress in completing a mutually agreed upon treatment plan.

The Tellurian Outpatient Clinic provides both group and individual counseling, including specific relapse prevention. Assessment services are provided to those working through substance use disorders, dependency, and mental health disorders.

Outpatient services are flexible and stress individualized treatment plans. Tellurian’s compassionate treatment focuses on patient needs with the goal of getting them back to the life they hope for.

Treatment with Suboxone

The Tellurian medical and counseling staff has developed a multi-faceted continuum of care that provides the tools and support needed for a sober and productive lifestyle free of opiate addiction.

Opioid dependence is a challenging and complicated condition, but it can be treated. Suboxone® is the first prescription medication available for use in the treatment of opioid dependence under the Drug Addiction Treatment Act of 2000. Suboxone® was developed to decrease the pain and discomfort of withdrawal and aid in decreasing opiate cravings, and block the effects of drugs such as heroin, morphine, Vicodin, Oxycodone, and Oxycontin.

Suboxone® is not a “miracle cure.” Treatment takes hard work! You may experience times of sadness, anxiety, and loneliness, but you will also experience times of joy and laughter. Each day becomes an adventure as you travel down the road to recovery. The Tellurian Suboxone® Treatment Program encompasses four distinct phases.

STABILIZATION PHASE

The staff physician and therapist review medical records and psychosocial history during the medical exam and intake process to determine if Suboxone® is appropriate for the patient. If Suboxone® is prescribed, dosages are adjusted as needed and intensive group and individual therapy begins.

EARLY RECOVERY PHASE

Early recovery focuses on continued weekly group and individual counseling. Medication checks occur monthly, and random drug screens are conducted.

MAINTENANCE PHASE

During maintenance, monthly individual counseling and group therapy sessions play a major role in recovery as patients continue to rebuild their life free of drugs.

MANAGED SUBOXONE DETOXIFICATION

Under physician supervision, Suboxone® dosages are slowly decreased to minimize any withdrawal symptoms. The goal of phase IV is to discontinue Suboxone® altogether. Patients are encouraged to continue counseling.

CRISIS STABILIZATION

Tellurian offers Crisis Assessment, Recovery, and Empowerment (CARE) facilities for those experiencing a crisis situation. CARE facilities are community-based residential facilities created to provide an alternative to institutional or hospital settings. CARE facilities provide a safe haven for individuals who are experiencing a mental health crisis and are in need of support, medication observation, and goal-oriented treatment planning.

Patients receive 24-hour support and supervision, daily individual and group services, and are formally assessed so their unique needs are addressed in accordance with their crisis and response plans. Length of stay depends on individual needs – typically 14 days or less, averaging 3-5 days. Our facilities help return the individual to their home or work environment as soon as the “crisis situation” has been stabilized. Tellurian currently operates two CARE facilities (Crisis Assessment, Recovery and Empowerment). The Tellurian CARE Center is located in Madison, Wisconsin and the Tellurian CARE House is located in LaCrosse, Wisconsin.
