I installed Exchange server 2013 on the
server 2012. After configuring Exchange, I tried to access mail - setup exchange mail and open Outlook. I have an error message: "Cannot start Microsoft Outlook. Cannot open Outlook window. The set of folders cannot be opened. You must connect to Microsoft Exchange with the current profile before you can synchronize your folders with your Outlook data file (.ost)"
I can't find what's wrong. Please help.

Is this an upgrade of Exchange or a clean install? It sounds like you are using an old Outlook profile to connect to a new server,
and the data doesn't match. Create a new Outlook profile to match the mailbox on the new server.

I did a clean install. I installed Win server 2012, promoted to AD DC and installed Exchange 2013.
Thank You

When you installed Exchange Server 2013, did you create accounts for all your mail users? If you don't have an account on the Exchange Server that matches the
user profile that the user has defined in Outlook, you can expect the error message you are receiving.
I have been unable to find any documentation on a process to import the accounts from earlier versions of Exchange. The documentation I have been using is at https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb124558%28v=exchg.150%29.aspx

NEI (Not Enough Information).
Where did you create a new user account? On the user's computer? In Outlook? Or on the Exchange Server? You need to have an
account set up on the Exchange Server for each user first. Then you can create an account in Outlook to connect to the account on Exchange Server.
What "web app"? Do you mean Outlook Web Access (OWA)? If so, what E-mail account are you using to sign into OWA? Have you configured a profile in Outlook that uses the same User ID, Password, and E-mail address as you are using in OWA?
If you're not using OWA, tell us what "web app" you mean.

Look at the autodiscover record in DNS and see what server it's pointing to. Here's some good info on it:
Also, create a new profile on the client workstation. (Control Panel>Mail Click New and make sure the new profile is selected to be used). Then, reopen Outlook on the client workstation.

Exchange 2013 installed on the Domain Controller - is it a problem?

Any version of Exchange on a domain controller is a bad idea and Microsoft says don't do it. It may work fine, or you may have lots of issues and it definitely
makes replacing that server difficult, so it is better to have Exchange as just a member server.
