Kindly read another definition of multimedia.

This multimedia definition tells us that materials on the Internet or in your school and business presentations involve several forms of communication to connect, that is, to be in the middle of the sender and receiver. Also, multimedia can be recorded for played-back on computers, laptops, smartphones, and other electronic devices.

Before we proceed on the different concepts related to Multimedia, first we have to talk about the different factual texts or types of texts.

What are these factual texts?

Factual texts inform the reader about a particular subject. They should give useful information and focus on facts.

Example of Factual Texts: Kindly read the first example.

When we say recount, it is to retell a series of events. If you recount a story or event, you tell or describe it to people.

Another example, kindly read the slide.

Means, to instruct someone on how to do something

Another example of factual text, kindly read what is on the slide.

Meaning to explain how or why something occurs. So, for the last example of factual text?

The word multimedia comes from two Latin roots, multi and media. Multi means several or many and media means in the middle.

Recount - journal, diary, newspaper article, historical recount, letter, log, timeline

Procedure - instruction, recipe, directions

Explanation - scientific writing, spoken presentation

Description - observation, speech, analysis

Meaning to describe the characteristics or features of a thing or a phenomenon

So, they were the four factual texts to be used in the different types of multimedia. Do you understand, class?

Now, let’s proceed to the different types of multimedia. In the early days, in order to reach people, we used to use print media like letters, newspapers, magazines and books. But, when technology developed, we have now many ways to communicate and reach people, we now have televisions, cellphones, internet, social media and others.

A multimedia system consists two or perhaps all of the following types of multimedia.

We have here 5 Components of Multimedia Text Materials, Graphics or Photographs, Sound or Audio, Forms of Animation.

different mediums are integrated through the digitization process. Interactivity is heightened by the possibility of easy feedback. 4. Flexible. Being digital, this media can easily be changed to fit different situations and audiences. 5. Used for a wide variety of audiences. It can be used by various audiences ranging from one person to a whole group.

Did you understand the different advantages of multimedia, class? On the other hand, we also have to take note these different disadvantages of Multimedia.

Disadvantages of Using Multimedia

  1. Information overload. Because it is so easy to use, it can contain too much information at once. 2. It takes time to compile. Even though it is flexible, it takes time to put the original draft together. 3. It can be expensive. Multimedia makes use of a wide range of resources, which can cost you a large amount of money. 4. Too much makes it impractical. Large files like video and audio need large storage. Adding too much can mean that you have to use a computer with huge storage capacity to store the files. Did you understand the discussion?

Then we will apply what you have learned in the next activity.

(Students listen attentively)

E. Application

Okay, for the second activity which will help our friend Charlie to get his second ticket, we will be having an activity called Identification Game. Instruction: You will just identify what multimedia resources which will use in the different scenarios. 5 seconds will be given for every item.

Let’ start! 1. Mr. Dela Peña wants to know the number of sales they had in past 6 months. What multimedia resource will he use?

  1. Mia will be sharing how to cook a delicacy she just invented. What multimedia resource will she use?

  2. The Grade 5 pupils will explore the similarities and differences between zoo animals. What multimedia resource will they use?

  3. Ryan will report about the book he just read. What multimedia will he use?
