The third and final volume of Avengers Arena is a good ending to a really enjoyable series. I worried a little at the end of volume 2 that they were going to cheap out on the ending, but my fears were unfounded. This volume continues the way the series began: brutal and unpredictable.

I didn't find the story to be quite up to par with the first two volumes, though it's still very good. The final confrontation left something to be desired and the fates of some of the characters are ambiguous. But this volume is still smart and funny at times and consistently compelling.

This volume collects issues 13-18, with all but 13 written by Dennis Hopeless. (13 is a side story that addresses the question of why hasn't anyone noticed the contestants are missing, and it's written by Cristos Gage.) Kev Walker handles the art as he did for most of the series to this point in issues 14, 15, 17 and 18 with Karl Moline drawing 13 and 16. The art was a bit of a weak point for me, personally. As far as extras go there is a one page "Farewell to Avengers Arena" written by Hopeless, explaining how the project came to be and how different it is from what he first pitched to Marvel. The alternate 8 bit cover to #14 is included as well as a few concept pieces.

If you've read the first two volumes you've doubtlessly already added this one to your cart. If you haven't, you should pick these up right away. Don't worry about perceived imitations of the Hunger Games and other works, this is a book that really stands on its own and deserves an audience.

A good continuation of the series, the ending wasn't quite as exciting in some ways than I had hoped, but overall I enjoyed it. I also recommend the 1st two volumes. Although the series premise is derivative, writer Dennis Hopeless manages to incorporate some good character development and interactions. Artist Kev Walker does a great job, as usual.

The story started off strong with volume one, and two was pretty nice as well, but the ending was week.
Worth reading, but not as great as it could have been.

A lot of times these kind of series cop out on the ending or it just all falls apart. Surprisingly, this one ended very strong with a complete story yet plenty of room for a followup which I hope we see.

An amazing finale to the Avengers Arena story. Action, thrills, and a hell of a good read.

A fantastic end to my favorite Marvel series in years. A horrifying and disturbing premise, yes, but this is the first time since Mike Carey left X-Men that I actually feel like the characters are more than fiction!

Love this movie. Love this movie. Love this movie. Love this movie. Love this movie. Love this movie. Love this movie. I hate having to put in more words than I have to use.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun conclusion to a good series.

I enjoyed the whole Avengers Arena story and found it well paced and fun the whole read. The art is dynamic and has a fresh feeling to it, and the new characters mesh well with existing favourites. I was a fan of X23 which got me reading this series but I found many other new characters to latch onto as well. Recommended highly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Battle Royale/The Hunger Games with teen superheroes - but better.

one of those rare books where the teen characters actually act like teen characters - making dumb, hormone-fueled decisions even in life or death situations. Would recommend to anyone who loves comics, Battle Royale, teen superheroes, or The Hunger Games.

Badly written book. If you want to buy it because X-23 is on the cover. Then just skip it, she's hardly in the story at all.
